And a performance of live music to silent films by Ladislas Starewitch for the closing show…

The quartet – featuring Franck Pilandon (tenor and soprano saxophones), Clément Gibert (clarinets, alto saxophone), Christian Rollet (drums) and Stéphane Arbon (double bass) – recently stood out with their music performance for silent film L’œil du Pharmacien. This time, they will play live along three short films by Ladislas Starewitch.

An inspired pioneer n the 1910s, Ladislas Starewitch took the budding art of animation cinema to a level of unsurpassable perfection. A lover of nature and entomology, he often used the form of the fable and the fairy tale. Three magical films as a window into the wonderland of puppets: The Ant and the Grasshopper, an adaptation of the fable by La Fontaine, with breathtaking dancing and singing sequences, The Mascot and the Mermaids, featuring the Mascot, a recurring dog character of Starewitch’s films, and The Queen of the Butterflies, where a little girl is transported to the magical kingdom of butterflies.
